Playing Rules

USGA Rules govern all play at North Kossuth Golf Club. These are the club's own rules on top of them — worth a read before your first tee shot.

The Short Version

The four that come up most often, in a nutshell.

Out of Bounds

Stakes on holes 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9. Stroke and distance.

Lost Ball

Five minutes to search, then back to the spot of your stroke.

Water

Drop where it entered or re-hit. One stroke either way.

Rocks

Lift and play it as it lies free, or move two club lengths for one stroke.

The Full List

Ten rules, exactly as they're posted at the clubhouse.

  • All players and guests must register at the clubhouse before playing.

  • Please observe golf etiquette. Do not inconvenience those ahead of you. Do not delay on the greens after putting out, proceed to the next tee.

  • If a ball cannot be found within 5 minutes, you must go back to the spot where you hit the stroke and play another ball. Please allow faster groups to play through.

  • Play all holes in ways as they are laid out.

  • Stakes are out of bounds on holes numbered 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9. Any ball hit out of bounds loses stroke plus distance.

  • Ball in rough must be played where it lays.

  • Free drop (away from the hole) if your lie is by a small tree, any man-made objects, or on ground under repair.

  • On this man-made object, you may opt to take a second shot; however, the second shot must be played.

  • If your ball goes into the water you may either drop the ball at the point it entered the water or you may choose to re-hit the ball from the same spot as you did when you first hit into the water. In either case, you must take one stroke for the first hit into the water, and 1 stroke to hit again.

  • If your ball hits a rock, you may lift the ball from where it lies, without penalty.

What to Wear

Nothing fussy. Comfortable, smart golf clothes and you're welcome anywhere on the property.

  • On the course: Come as you are. Golf shirts, T-shirts, gym wear and athletic shorts are all welcome. Metal spikes are not permitted.

  • In the clubhouse: Casual and comfortable. Gym wear is fine here too — come straight in off the course.
